March 2016 (2)

Some of my Best Friends are Germs.

I have just been reading the above article by Michael Pollan published in the New York Times Magazine in May 2013.  Michael was Knight professor of journalism at the University of California, Berkley when this was written.

Its about the human microbiome, and it has close linkages to my passionate interest in the activities of the billions of microbes in the environment including the soil and within the bodies of plants and animals including ourselves.

Modern microbiology is fast opening windows to a new world we have not previously been aware of, and as with the overuse of industrial chemicals in agriculture, the use of powerful drugs in medicine, may be having unforeseen deleterious effects on human health.
